Here is the very first abandoned place I ever shot. It was really just something I stumbled into- both literally and figuratively. A dim barn interior would normally be something I would come prepared to shoot, with a tripod at the very least. But since it was an unexpected discovery I was not prepared for, I did my best shooting handheld in the low light, and these shots are the best of what I captured, improvising as I went. Shot in Delta, BC in 2013 on my Nikon D5200, it's hard to remember many of the details of that day, except I know I was on location doing a photoshoot of an acreage for sale on behalf of a real estate agent, and when I came upon this barn, I was transfixed. I didn't immediately pursue photographing more abandoned places, but whether it was in spite of the fact that I found it so challenging or because of it, an unexpected fascination in this genre was definitely planted in my soul that day.
